Makhana

Makhana (Euryale ferox) is emerging as a global superfood owing to its exceptional nutritional and medicinal value. India dominates its production, accounting for 90% of the world’s supply, with the state of Bihar alone contributing ~85–90% of the output.Makhana is the popped kernel of the Gorgon nut, an aquatic plant that flourishes in stagnant water bodies such as ponds and swamps

Size Grading (Suta System)

The diameter of the popped kernel determines its market value and application. Higher Suta values signify premium export quality. 

  • Premium Export (6+ to 7 Suta): These are jumbo-sized kernels ranging from 19 mm to 25+ mm. They are highly preferred by international retailers and for luxury gifting.
  • High Grade (5 to 6 Suta): Measuring 15 mm to 19 mm, these are popular for premium snacking brands due to their consistent appearance and high crunch.
  • Standard Grade (4 to 5 Suta): Ranging from 12.8 mm to 15.8 mm, these are ideal for large-scale industrial food processing and economical retail packs.
  • Commercial/Economy (3 Suta): Small kernels below 12 mm, often used in namkeen factories, sweet shops, or powdered forms

Grapes

It is very popular crop in the world and commercially grown in most countries. It is a perennial and deciduous woody climbing vine. It is a good source of vitamin B and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, and iron. Grapes are used for raw eating and are used for making various products such as jelly, jam, raisins, vinegar, juice, seed oil and grape seed extracts.  It also has health benefits such as it is used to control diabetes, relieves from asthma, heart issues, constipation, bone health etc. It is also useful for skin and hair health related issues.

There are three kinds of grapes.

  1. Green Grapes- 2-3cm Long Shape
  2. ink-black, midnight purple,” or “velvety ebony  3-3.8 cm long shape
  3. ruby-red,” “crimson-blushed,” or “deep garnet 3-4 cm Long shape

Nutritional Value

Green Grapes are a significant source of vitamin K, which supports blood clotting to prevent excessive bleeding from injuries and promotes bone health, reducing the risk of osteoporosis. Green Seedless grapes contain vitamins C and A, nutrients that help with fighting off infections, immune function, collagen production, improving vision and skin health, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
